FAQ & Contact
Here are 5 frequently asked questions (FAQs) that clients have about my lactation consulting services:
"What is a lactation consultant, and what do you do?"
A lactation consultant is a trained professional who provides specialized support and guidance to mothers who are experiencing challenges with breastfeeding. As a lactation consultant, I assess mother and baby's feeding needs, help to establish a good latch, offer advice on breastfeeding positions, and troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
"When should I contact a lactation consultant?"
You can contact a lactation consultant at any time during your breastfeeding journey. Some mothers choose to seek help in the early days after giving birth to establish a good breastfeeding routine, while others may reach out later on if they encounter problems such as low milk supply, nipple pain, or difficulties with pumping.
"What qualifications do you have as a lactation consultant?"
As a lactation consultant, I have completed an accredited lactation consultant training program. In this case Kristen is a Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC) from Academy of Lactation Policy and Practice (ALPP). I do ongoing education to maintain my knowledge and skills.
"What can I expect during a lactation consultation?"
During a lactation consultation, you can expect a thorough assessment of your breastfeeding challenges and goals. Your lactation consultant will observe a feeding session, offer advice on positioning and latch, and provide information on breast care and milk supply. They may also recommend additional resources or referrals as needed.
"How many lactation consultations will I need?"
The number of consultations needed will vary depending on your individual situation and needs. Some mothers may only require one or two consultations to address a specific issue, while others may benefit from ongoing support throughout their breastfeeding journey. Your lactation consultant can help you determine the best plan of care for you and your baby.
